It has been a month since I started interning for Mypaper as a reporter. The learning curve was quite steep at the start, I think its still pretty steep. But it is improving :) I still remember how my first article was hahah.

After experiencing the rather hectic life of a journalist first hand, I've learnt many things.. like (in no order of importance)

1) You can never write the perfect article, so don't beat yourself up over it - Even after you read through the article at least 5 times in your own head, and it sounds pretty damn perfect. Even after you use the spell check function.. There will still be changes made by editors, then by subs. Its quite a natural cycle, I realised. Even your headlines rarely stay intact.

2) Its like high quality snooping, you have to be kaypoh about EVERYTHING (Ps. your favourite words should be 'WHY?' , 'WHEN', 'HOW COME LIKE THAT' - Really every, single tiny thing. From what happened last year, to oh, why like that this year! Details are.. super super key. For those of you who know me well, this is my greatest learning point. I'm damn heck care abt details, and great at fluffy smokish writing.

3) Smalltalk is important- Somehow you must be able to have a 45 min conversation, or several conversations with almost any stranger! In these casual conversations, they must feel comfortable enough to divulge details about whatever, and give you their hp numbers, full name, age, occupation.. etc. In all sincerity :)

4) When two or more journalists gather, Info is there. And there is where you must gather too - self explainatory i guess, so you don't miss out on stuff.

Oh and be friendly to other journalists, sometimes its nice to have some friendships going even during the job. Really important if you rather not cab back alone. But actually it doesn't really matter, I realised. I'm usually friendly though, except to irritating irritating journalists!

5) Take a nice photo-byline picture. I had my first page-one and first photo-byline yesterday.. And I looked like a complete retard ):
